Agency for International Development (USAID)
USAID/Mexico’s Country Development Cooperation Strategy (CDCS) supports three Development Objectives (DOs) to strengthen rule of law and human rights, reduce drug-related crime and violence, and promote transparency and integrity efforts under the Merida Initiative, multi-year, bilateral security cooperation program.A fourth DO supports the President’s Global Climate Change Initiative. The Mission actively engages Mexico’s private sector through strategic alliances that encourage innovation and leverage resources to increase program impact, enhance sustainability, and replicate successful interventions across the country.
Agricultural Trade Office (ATO)
We carry out a variety of trade services geared to helping first time and seasoned U. S. exporters sell and promote their products into the Mexican market.
American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC)
Operates and maintains the Mexico City National Cemetery, founded in 1851 to inter the remains of U.S. military personnel who gave their lives in service during the Mexican-American War.
Animal Plant Health Inspection (APHIS)
APHIS’ mission in Mexico is to facilitate trade between Mexico and the United States while preventing the spread of exotic pests and diseases of plants and animals and to participate in cooperative efforts to control or eradicate pests of concern to Mexico and American agriculture.
Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is the federal agency that oversees lawful immigration to the United States. We are a component of the Department of Homeland Security.
Commercial Service (FCS)
Develops, produces, markets, and manages an effective line of services geared to the marketing needs of U.S. exporters.
Customs and Border Protection (CBP)
The CBP ensures that all goods and persons entering and exiting the United States do so in accordance with all United States laws and regulations.
Defense Attache (DAO)
Consists of the Army, Navy, and Coast Guard attaches. Works with Mexican military organizations.
Defense Coordination (ODC)
Manages all US Department of Defense Security Assistance programs in Mexico; provides training opportunities for military personnel and technical support for the military.
Department of Justice (DOJ)
The Department of Justice is represented by an Attache’s Office, which handles mutual legal assistance issues between Mexico and the United States and coordinates the extradition of fugitives to the United States to face justice.
Department of Justice – International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (DOJ/ICITAP)
ICITAP works with foreign governments to develop professional and transparent law enforcement institutions that protect human rights, combat corruption, and reduce the threat of transnational crime and terrorism.
Department of Justice – Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development, Assistance and Training (DOJ/OPDAT)
OPDAT’s mission is to assist prosecutors and judicial personnel in foreign countries to develop and sustain effective criminal justice institutions.
Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)
The lead federal agency in enforcing U.S. narcotics and controlled substances law and regulations.
Economic Section
The Economic Section is responsible for analyzing and reporting on economic, business, labor, environmental, scientific, technological and health developments in Mexico, as well as safeguarding and promoting U.S. interests in those areas. The section also advocates on behalf of U.S. businesses and identifies and eliminates barriers to market access for U.S. companies.
Federal Bureau Investigation (FBI) – Legal Attaché
The mission of the FBI is to protect the American people and uphold the Constitution of the United States. While the FBI is charged with a broad range of investigative responsibilities, it’s priorities include: protect the United States from terrorist attack; protect the United States against foreign intelligence operations and espionage; protect the United States against cyber-based attacks and high-technology crimes; combat public corruption at all levels; protect civil rights; combat transnational/national criminal organizations and enterprises; combat major white-collar crime; and to combat significant violent crime.
Food and Drug Administration (FDA)FDA is responsible for protecting the public health by assuring the safety, efficacy, and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices, food supply, cosmetics, and products that emit radiation made available to the American public.
Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS)
The Food Safety and Inspection Service is the public health agency in the U.S. Department of Agriculture responsible for ensuring that the nation’s commercial supply of meat, poultry, and egg products is safe, wholesome, and correctly labeled and packaged.
Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS)
Responsible for USDA’s overseas market information and trade policy activities, including analysis of supply and demand conditions, trade trends, and market access issues.
Human ResourcesResponsible for administering the personnel functions of the Embassy. The Embassy in Mexico may hire American citizens and Mexican citizens, within the limitations set forth in U.S. government regulations
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Office of International Affairs (OIA) is the largest international investigative component within in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The mission of OIA is to protect the United States of America by enhancing national security to prevent terrorist attacks. In furtherance of this goal, OIA conducts and coordinates international investigations involving transnational criminal organizations responsible for the illegal movement of people, goods, money and technology into and out of the United States.
International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL)
INL is the U.S. Embassy’s coordinator for all projects under the $2.3billion Merida Initiative. INL provides Merida-funded equipment, technical assistance, and capacity building for Mexican law enforcement and judicial personnel. INL also works with Mexican government and civil society partners to reduce drug demand and promote a culture of lawfulness.
Peace Corps
Peace Corps is a U.S. Government program established to promote cooperation and friendship between the American people and those of other countries. Peace Corps invites qualified American citizens to spend two years living in their host country while working in specific areas of technical and economic development to contribute to the country’s socio-economic development, thus creating lasting bonds of friendship and goodwill.
Political Section
The Political Section works with the Mexican government and other partners to strengthen the U.S.-Mexico bilateral relationship. It analyzes and reports on political developments to keep U.S. policy makers informed on events and conditions in Mexico.
Public AffairsThe Office of Public Affairs handles all press, cultural, information, and educational programs of the U.S. government in Mexico in order to build greater mutual understanding as well as an appreciation for the United States and its policies.
IRS
The Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI) investigates potential criminal violations of the Internal Revenue Code and related financial crimes such as money laundering, currency violations, and narcotics related financial crimes.
OFAC
The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Department of the Treasury administers and enforces economic and trade sanctions based on US foreign policy and national security goals against targeted foreign countries and regimes, terrorists, international narcotics traffickers, those engaged in activities related to the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and other threats to the national security, foreign policy or economy of the United States.
United States Marshals Service (USMS)
The U.S. Marshals Service primary function in Mexico is to work with the Government of Mexico in locating and apprehending fugitives wanted in the United States.
